When I shop, I find that I tend to look for colourful veggies. Partly because of the advice to "eat your colours", but mainly because they are just so darn gorgeous! Don't you think?

Found these purple, orange and yellow heirloom carrots and red, pink and purple radishes in a little grocery called Tommy's Fresh in Waverley Gardens Shopping Centre. Well you can more or less find them in any supermarket and most grocery stores nowadays. They are so pretty to look at, and is such a pretty addition to your salads and veggie side dishes. Have your radishes raw and thinly sliced crosswise. The centres are white and the outer rings are the colours that you see, so they are very pretty, delicate, and colourful rings in your otherwise green salad. The colourful carrots can be served raw, lightly steamed or pan roasted and glazed with butter and honey. Yum!

There are other colourful heirloom veggies as well. In the cruciferous family, there is the purple cauliflower, orange cauliflower, and the yellow caulibroc (this is probably more a cross than an heirloom. Again they can just be steamed and served with simple grilled chicken and another colourful veggie.

See, doesn't that make your meal that much more appetizing? :-)
